EMT anticipates that legislative changes have recently been made that could impact the management of COVID-19 on the island. COVIDiving with COVID and Things to Consider When Traveling to the Island Norfolk Island, like the rest of the country, is now living with COVID-19 and most local restrictions have been lifted. However, to reduce the risk of bringing the virus to Norfolk Island, it is highly recommended that you take a rapid antigen test (RAT) for COVID-19 within 48 hours of your trip to the island. Postpone travel to the island if you test positive for COVID-19. It is also recommended to do another RAT within 24 hours of your arrival. The island has very limited sanitary facilities compared to the mainland. If you are elderly, unvaccinated or with a comorbidity and contract COVID-19, you put additional pressure on these facilities. It is mandatory to report a positive COVID result (PCR or RAT) to Norfolk Island Health and Residential Aged Care Service (NIHRACS) at 22091.

If you need to self-isolate on the island due to COVID, you will do so at your own expense. Accommodation providers on the island are required to provide you with telephone access in your room, and NIHRACS has created information guides explaining the requirements for self-isolation/quarantine on the island and supplies, health care and garbage. This includes how to get food and meals, access to phone and internet credits while self-isolating, and other useful information. This information is provided to you by your hosting provider if you do not have access to the emails. If you need to extend your stay on the island due to self-isolation and are unable to extend your current accommodation, your accommodation provider will endeavour to find alternative accommodation. It is your responsibility to change your travel plans with your booking agent or tour manager so that you can return home. Your extended accommodation costs and the costs associated with the amended travel plans are your responsibility and it is highly recommended that you purchase travel insurance to cover this. ENNI no longer offers COVID-19-related social assistance on the island, and if you need to self-isolate, it is your duty to meet NIHRACS` self-isolation requirements. If you are a visitor to the island, your accommodation provider will ensure that you have access to a phone and that you have the option to contact the mainland. However, this can be done at your own expense. Island businesses may have their own requirements to protect themselves and their employees from the spread of COVID. This may include the requirement to provide proof of negative RTW before being admitted to their accommodation, or the requirement to wear masks on their premises or on their buses.

UPDATE – THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2022PRESS RELEASEContvacated travellers – Self-isolation requirement lifted for residents and key workers EMT has lifted the requirement for unvaccinated residents and essential workers travelling to the island to self-isolate. However, unvaccinated visitors must self-isolate for seven (7) days upon arrival on the island. Unvaccinated travellers are encouraged to take a TAR within 48 hours of departure for the island and a second one within 24 hours of arrival. If the second RAT tests positive, travelers should immediately self-isolate and contact NIHRACS at 22091. This will apply from February 26. Importance of COVID-safe behaviours and practices when reopening Starting next week, we will welcome visitors from continental regions where COVID-19 is constantly transmitted. Measures have been taken regarding entry to the island to reduce the likelihood of the virus coming to the island, but it will eventually arrive here and we will rely on COVID-safe behaviour to ensure its local spread is minimized and traceable.
